For whatever reason, the Green Bay Phoenix are usually one of the last Division I basketball programs to release their non-conference schedule.

Thankfully as other schools release their schedules and other little nuggets of information emerge, we can piece together what the schedule will look like as the summer goes on.

One of those nuggets of information came from Scott Venci of the Green Bay Press-Gazette over the weekend when he sent out a tweet that the Phoenix will face the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center in Madison on Saturday, December 23rd.

Venci also noted that, with the Green Bay Packers taking on the Minnesota Vikings that night, the tip-off for the Phoenix / Badgers game will likely be in the afternoon.

Wisconsin leads the all-time series 22-1 with the two programs squaring off every year since 2000, though that may change in the near future. For over a decade the two schools had an agreement that saw the Badgers come to Green Bay once for every four Phoenix trips to Madison.

That is no longer the case as Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard made it clear last year that the Badgers will no longer play “road” games at the Resch Center.

“We’ve transitioned to playing Green Bay and Milwaukee more on a one-year contract and in Madison,” Gard told the Wisconsin State Journal last August. “That gives us more flexibility to do some of those other marquee events and games that have been brought to our attention over the last couple years.”

“I know the importance of playing the schools in the state and will continue to make an attempt to do that.”

The Phoenix knocked off Wisconsin, 88-84 in overtime, in a memorable game at the Resch Center in 2009 and fell, 69-66, in the team’s last meeting in Green Bay in 2013.

Green Bay is 0-19 all-time in Madison including a 73-59 loss at the Kohl Center last season.

Other known opponents so far on Green Bay’s schedule include away games at Belmont (December 2nd) and Missouri (December 9th) as well as a home game against Bowling Green (December 21st). The Phoenix will also face Indiana State on the road, though the date for that game has not yet been announced.
