The Green Bay Phoenix coaching staff has extended a scholarship offer to Josh McNair.
The 6’6” forward from suburban Denver is currently a redshirt sophomore at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado where he has helped lead the Rattlers to an 18-3 record so far this season. Otero received several votes in this week’s NJCAA Division I national top 25 poll.

McNair leads the team in scoring and rebounding this season averaging 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game. He does most of his damage around the basket, shooting 64.0% from the floor but can occasionally step outside and knock down a three pointer. He has shot roughly 30% from behind the arc going back to his senior season in high school, including 31.6% (6 for 19) this season.
Prior to transferring to Otero, McNair played his freshman season at Laramie County CC in Wyoming where he averaged 10.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He redshirted and sat out the 2016/2017 season at Otero after transferring from Laramie County.
At 6’6”, he boasts explosive athleticism and seems like a natural fit for head coach Linc Darner’s RP40 system.
The offer from Green Bay is McNair’s first Division I offer, though he received interest from Division I schools in both football and basketball as a prep star at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver.
He ranked as the 6th best basketball prospect in Colorado’s 2015 class according to Rivals.com affiliate GoldAndGreenNews.com.
“[McNair] has measurables college coaches love,” the website wrote. “He is 6’5” and has length. McNair is also very coordinated and explosive. The small forward is an outstanding defensive weapon who can guard multiple positions. He rebounds at a high rate and has a good basketball IQ.”
“A more consistent jumper could help his game take off.”
He averaged and impressive stat line of 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 1.9 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game in 24 games as a senior at Thomas Jefferson.
Green Bay has extended scholarship offers to several other 2018 JUCO prospects including Antonio Williams (6’1″ SG), Rashawn Fredericks (6’6″ SG), Wali Parks (6’6″ SF), and Eli Abaev (6’8″ PF).
The Phoenix also were in the hunt for 6’4” Racine Prairie star JC Butler but are no longer involved in his recruitment according to Evan Flood of 247Sports.com.
