Green Bay has landed their first commitment of the 2019 recruiting class.
Ohio-native Amari Davis, a 6’3″ shooting guard from just outside of Dayton, announced on Twitter on Saturday that he has verbally committed to the Phoenix.
“First off I would like to thank God, without him nothing would be possible,” Davis wrote. “Next, I would like to thank family and friends for keeping me on the right path, thanks to all the coaches who’ve had a chance to coach me. Also, thanks for all the coaches who have been recruiting me.”
Davis is the 12th ranked prospect in the state of Ohio’s 2019 class according to 247 Sports. He is a 3-star recruit according to Rivals .com and 247 Sports.
He chose the Phoenix over scholarship offers from Toledo and Miami (OH) of the Mid-American Conference and also had scholarship offers from fellow Horizon League members Cleveland State and IUPUI.
A star at Trotwood-Madison High School, Davis averaged 21.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.1 steals per game last year as a junior and helped lead his team all the way to the state championship game where they fell to Lebron James’ alma mater, Akron’s St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

Davis’ has unfortunately had to endure a bit of tragedy in his life. His older brother Lamar was an up-and-coming basketball player himself but had his career cut short just weeks before his high school career was set to begin back in 2007 when he collapsed suddenly during an open gym.
According to the Dayton Daily News, Lamar, who was 6’5″ and went by the nickname Boo, received letters of interest from schools such as Ohio State and Cleveland State even before playing a high school game. He was set to be the area’s next star basketball prospect.
“I’m filling my brother’s shoes,” Amari wrote on Twitter. “I’m doing something he wasn’t able to do.”
Davis is the first player to commit to Green Bay for the 2019 class. Green Bay does have one more open scholarship available for the 2019 class due to TJ Parham now being listed on the team’s official roster as a redshirt senior. He was listed as a redshirt sophomore a season ago.
“I will continue my education and basketball career at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay,” Davis wrote. “Thanks to Coach Darner for giving me a chance,”
